This piece works well in a bright environment that will bring out the sunlight in the image.
John Wright's 'The Escapologist' presents a natural scene through a lens of fairytale fantasy. This classic British picture of sunlight drifting through woodland is made otherworldly by using colour, light, different directions of branches, and the very angle of the original photo to push the viewer to look deeper to understand the scene and in doing so better appreciate the beauty of this piece of wall art.
THE ESCAPOLOGIST SERIES:
" In 2019 I had to drastically rebalance my lifestyle. Diagnosed with Acute Anxiety, it became clear to me through a long period of self reflection, meditation, counselling and the study of philosophy, that I had completely attached my sense of ‘self’ to my work and my professional persona. The shifting sands of my industry and my determination to create more and more ‘success’ in my life had left me under an unsustainable amount of self induced pressure. In simple terms I stopped everything. If I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have survived. To create a new healthier balance in my life I withdrew from my commercial interests and focused on ‘being’. For the first time in my life, inspired by the lessons I’d learned in Buddhism, Taoism and Stoic teachings I sought sanctuary in nature. More simply put, I started hanging out with my dogs in the woodland near my home...It was in these woods, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the forest that I found the time to reflect on who I had become and to explore if I had become the ‘who’ that I actually wanted to be. My time in reflection, often lost in passages from Stoic, Buddhist and Taoist pholosophy books showed me that here in nature lay the truth of our existence. The desire to maintain the status and celebrity I had acquired in my career, and my identification with it would ultimately create more anxiety and eventually destroy my relationships with those I loved. The answer, was to simply ‘Let Go’ of of the false, egoic facade that I had built around me. As I did that, I truly felt that I had ESCAPED from a prison of my own construction. These images symbolise that experience and that realisation."
