Converse Union Jack, 2019 2 x 30” x 40”, Edition of 9 C-Type Prints
These two separate portrait prints work best in a room with a grayscale colour scheme that really makes the blue and read stand out. It's bold, assertive subject can really bring some style to a room.
This set of prints by Schachtner has a great classic British style about it, and in two faded shoes shown only from behind, it evokes all sorts of images of cool brittania, punk, and street fashion. Its size is impressive and only adds to the impact that this rough, unsanitised piece of wall art has.
About the Artist:
German American photographer, Michael Schachtner, began his career as an Art Director at Saatchi & Saatchi in New York, wherein his first year he won a coveted Cannes Lion Award. Since then, Michael has won awards from several major advertising festivals including Cannes, ADC NY, Clio Awards, and One Show, and has also worked for other prestigious agencies Y&R and BBH. In 2009 Michael was ranked one of the Top 50 Young Creatives in the world by the Art Directors Club NY.
Michael now focuses on his photographic work, again mostly working for advertising agencies in New York. His personal series, ‘Converse’ was first shown when he was selected as one of the finalists in the 2012 'Peaches & Cream Photography Awards Exhibition', held in conjunction with Millennium Images.
Michael's series of photographs of Converse boots are a fittingly cool and stylish tribute to a truly iconic American institution. "Converse are not just shoes. Converse can be an emblem of individualism, a rejection of the mainstream. They become evidence of a life lived. That's what gives them their soul and makes them a portrait of their owner."
